Hackney Comic + Zine Fair

On Sunday 8th September 2019, Hackney Comic + Zine Fair will be taking over London Fields Arches for a celebration of sequential art and the people that produce it. Over 40 artists, writers and publishers will be there, with a huge range of styles, genres and approaches to the comics medium available to purchase.

Presented by London Fields Brewery, it will be a whole day packed full of comics, art and beer. Entry is free, so there is nothing to stop you from coming along, buying some comics, chatting to the creators and having a drink with us.

The aim of the event is to showcase the many different forms and genres that sequential art can take – especially in the independent, self-published and small-press scene. No matter if you’ve never picked up a comic before or if you have boxes full of thousands of them in the spare room at your dad’s house (sorry dad, I swear I’ll move those someday) then with work covering everything from autobiographical travel journals, abstract introspection, sci-fi romance and struggles with mental health, there will be something for you to enjoy at HCZF.

As well as our talented bunch of creators, we’ll be joined by various communities, websites, podcasts and groups that are focused on promoting the medium and spreading their passion about it as far and wide as possible, and we will have drop-in workshops throughout the day for you to try your hand at making comics yourself.

We also have beer. Lots of beer. Drink the beer, please*.

London Fields Brewery was born in August 2011 in the heart of Hackney, under the railway arches next to the oasis of greenery within London Fields.

LFB was the first commercial brewery developed in the area in 100 years.

Now working with Carlsberg UK and Brooklyn Brewery, they are proud to help spread the word of craft beer around the country and strengthen London Fields on the map as a destination for great beer.

How much are tickets?
Nothing! Entry is free! You have no excuse to not come along!

Where does it take place?
Hackney! More specifically: London Fields Arches, 369-370 Helmsley Place, London, E8 3SB.

How do I get there?
Take a look at the venue page for transport links and a handy map.

Can I pay for things with card?
Payment methods will vary from exhibitor to exhibitor, so while some may accept cards it’s probably best to bring some cash with you too. The bar accepts both, though.

I make comics. Can I have a table?
Unfortunately at this stage spaces for exhibitors are invite only. Sorry!

I want to make comics. Can you help?
Chat to WIP Comics, who will have a table at the event and are a comic-making support group who meet up once a month in London.

Where can I find you on social media?
You can follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we’ll be posting very neatly organised and colour-coded content right up to the event.

Is the event child friendly?
Children are more than welcome, and are often fun, but we can’t guarantee all the content on offer will be suitable for a younger audience. In fact, we’d go so far as to guarantee some of it definitely won’t be. So bring kids at your own discretion.

Will I be able to buy anything apart from comics?
While the focus is primarily on sequential art, various exhibitors are sure to have prints, posters, badges and other merch for sale. You can also buy beer!

Do you have beer?
Yes! We have so much beer!

I have another question…
Cool, send it over via the contact page and we’ll do our best to answer it.
